What is the Freshly Baked ReMixer Challenge?
The Freshly Baked ReMixer Challenge is an annual video game remixing challenge hosted by ThaSauce, Video Game Remix news portal. During the challenge, mixers are assigned a remixing request, at random, and given an appointed amount of time to complete it. The requests come from members in the community, and as a result everyone is potentially given a chance to have their request filled, and remixers have a chance to exercise or demonstrate their musical prowess.

Song: Avilla Henya
Requested by: Arcana
Duration: 2:19
I'm not uploading it first because I'm the first one who's finished. It's not finished, but because I'm leaving for a vacation and I'll return on the deadline day, I don't have any time to work on it more.
Good luck to everyone else to start/work/finish their song.

Special thanks to diotrans for voice overs. I had a lot of fun making this. I wanted to add some original material to it, but when I did, it just sounded out of place. I really like what I did with it though. Hope you guys like it as well.

I actually didn't start workin on this till about 1-2.5 weeks ago and given that I wasn't familiar with the song and I had a completely different vision for a remix, I'm surprised that I finished this before time was up xD, at any rate hope you guys enjoy =)

Song: Area A (Green Grass Gradation)
Requested by: F4T4L

I struggled a lot with this song. I had issues with out-of-tune notes, song structure, and instrument choices. In the end, I stuck with it because that's the point of the challenge - it's not supposed to be easy. I hope you guys like it.

lots of people complained about people not finishing their remix. lots of other people complained that their remix was hard. mine was pretty easy.
never played the game, so i don't have any witty rhetoric to tie this into that, so i'll just say that this is attempt number four at the song. i tried a salsa track, an electro-pop thing, and a vocal thing, and they were terrible. this was a little less bad, so i ran with it. it's a funky kind of track, with string bass, some keyboards, bells, and a synth lead. mastering's not too great, but i've got a bit of an ear thing going on.
thanks to oa for requesting this song. time to listen to some more ragnarok online, since this is awesome =)
total time for this remix, from attempt 1 to this, was a touch over three hours.

Song: Snow's Theme
Requested by: Demonstray
Duration: 3:38
Comments:
If I got off my butt and worked on this more I probably could have finished it, but I have a wedding away from my studio to go to and my Saturday night is filled up too. Alas.
Regardless of that, I hope your friend Demi enjoys this even though I sorta turned the style on its heels a little. (a lot)

Game: Super Mario Galaxy 2
Song: Starshine Beach Galaxy
Duration: 5:43
Genre: piano solo
(Requested by just64helpin)
When reaching Starshine Beach in the game myself, it looked a lot like such an innocent and closed location in comparison to most of the other levels at that stage in the game; something that would provide more of a paradise for the pianta inhabitants, the sealife and its visitors.
In effect, what I've done is taken the song and drew experiences on past vacations. You may think that you're breaking away to escape from the drivel of everyday life for a short while, but sometimes there could be unexpected things that could throw things out of proportion if only for a short while - weather hazards, lost possessions, illnesses, homesickness... you name it. But through it all, you still find time to enjoy everything around you and return home with mainly happy memories of the whole experience.
If I had known there was a 2 week extension I would've refined the production a little more, but still, I hope you like it John :D

Game: Mega Man 4
Song: Pharaoh Man Theme
Genre: Electronica
Requested by The Biznut
I had a lot of fun making this, even if it isn't terribly interprative of the source tune. I'm trying to get better with drums, but they remain the weakest part of my skills. I liked Mega Man 4, and while the Pharaoh Man theme is not my favorite, this arrangement is a fun tromp through some of the games of my youth.
Thanks Biznut- Enjoy

This is more than likely the worst entry, so don't take the title as a joke. <3 I'm so sorry that you and others have to endure it. At least the screams of my drunk friends helped mask some of the terrible in the song. That was kind of my grand scheme.
I am preparing to be the most hated remixer ever. ^__^

Game: FZero X
Song: Decide in the Eyes
Requested by: Bahamut
Aight, this remix is typical of what my default remix genre/style. I struggled with making it sound and come out how it plays in my mind, and while this entry really falls short of what I want it to sound like, It does capture a sense of the main ideas. May come back to this one at some point, It was fun for sure.
Wes, I respect you, I hope my effort brings you joy in some way, some how :-)
Thanks Rama for organizing, can't wait to hear everyones.
I'm uploading from a slow net connection in a small town, I'm here for work, Ima upload it and leave, hope it works!

Game: Mega Turrican
Track: Stage 1-1
Requested by: LuketheXjesse
Duration: 2:40
I think of fire in connection with emotions because when you become "stirred up", when your emotions control your actions, it affects not only yourself but the people around you. Psychologists find that control of emotions can be gained by understanding the stimulus response pattern. When you have certain experiences, you respond with various emotions - a stimulus response. Cause, effect... Nature endows us at birth with three general patterns of emotional response: Rage is the response to the primary stimulus of thwarting, something interfering with our behavior, or actions; Fear is the response to loud noises, or loss of support; and the emotional response to love is usually the result of a show of affection, or favors... and these seem to be the emotions with which we start life. Then as we grow up, many everyday things and social situations become associated with these primary stimuli, partly by a process called conditioning... and so, many things and people cause us to respond emotionally, and in general that's good. For there are many factors involved in a personality, and a balance of emotion is important to a well-rounded personality... but emotions out of control, well... What might happen to you, or to me? What's the stimulus that brings on this sudden emotional response of anger or mild rage? Shortcuts often lead to trouble, and thus loss of emotional control. You've heard "haste makes waste"? Did you ever hear anyone say "I was so mad I couldn't see straight"? Severe emotional stress often decreases efficiency. Anger is a violent emotion, and we often see an induction of behavior or spread of emotion to other persons, almost like a contagious disease.

Title: Darkness Fears the Light, and We Fear the Darkness
Game: Boktai: The Sun Is In Your Hand
Track: Dark Boy
Length: 5:33
Requested by Mirby
VSTs used: Vienna Symphonic Special Edition Plus, Stormdrum 2, BlueTubes Analog TrackBox (analog amp sim), M30 Reverb, SIR (reverb), Sonitus:fx multiband compressor
There's a lot of great material to work with in this track, and because I had a relatively clear idea of where I wanted to end up, the arranging wasn't particularly difficult.
I do wish that I could have fleshed out the orchestral arrangement a little more, but I'm running on an aging laptop, which makes juggling lots of samples a pain. The stripped down orchestra that I used (clr, bsn, hns, tpts, tbns, tmp, perc, vln 1, vln 2, vcl w/ cb doubling) let me work without having to do much in the way of VST freezing or sample unloading.
For anyone curious, the chaotic string swells at the beginning were created by layering tremolo, trill, and sul ponticello tremolo samples.
I'm generally pleased with how this turned out, although if I were going to sub it to OCR, I'd probably be a little more meticulous about the production.

Super Adventure Island Stage 2-2 (Jungle Chase)
Requested by Hemophiliac
I'm not really happy with how this turned out. :(
My original idea was to have the track begin chiptune-ish and transition into more realistic instruments. A small element of that idea made it into this version, but the arrangement is much more simple and straightforward (it's not much more than a cover, unfortunately) than I intended.

Well, I'm obviously not the most polished musician around here, but I'm glad I have a "finished" product here for once, even if it isn't completely done. It's always good getting practice in. One day, I will get better!
Hope you enjoy it, Brandon!

Game: Jackal
Song: Stage 1 & 4
Requested by: Gario
Duration: 3:00
I am really happy to be able to finish this, despite the ridiculous problems I had with the everything today that I'd rather not go into.
Gario wanted a metal version of this. I've never heard of Jackal, but I watched a gameplay vid on youtube and it looked pretty cool. I am sorry that I'm not a good enough guitarist to actually play the song at the regular speed, but I did my best with what I'm capable of. I met Gario in Las Vegas, and he was one of the coolest dudes ever. He's so outgoing that it made me want to take a nap. And he's probably like that all the time. He must be on something.
Anyway, if anything needs changed or whatever, let me know. If you think this is panel-worthy then that'd be cool. ^-^
The highly clever title refers to tanks.
