There wasn't really any comments to reply to this week, because it was mostly compliments and funny GIFs, so onto the voting!
TheVideoGamer - This track is more of my slightly minimalistic pieces, where it's all about looping things for an extended period of time. The track is mostly based on a Major 5th delayed synth riff in 5/4, followed slowly developing pad chords, that swell in and out. The melody is varied, mostly on 3 synths, with one sounding like an organ, another sounding like some square flute, and the last one just being mostly a square lead. Even though it's minimalistic, it does play in 2 halves, with the first half being very airy and atmospheric guided only by a high pass break automated by a volume fade, before the 3 minute mark switches things into hyperspeed by adding in a kick and hi-hat combo, a bassline, and some piano work, whilst still keeping it the same. The break is no longer high passed, and it's doubled with other breakbeats too. All in all, very much a Stve Reich piece, but it has a lot of developments despite the minimalisism, I like it, and i hope you do too!
DarkShadow - That bassline is so deep it rattles to the edge of my brain. Lots of droning basslines in this, compared to syncopated rhythms. I like the chaotic melody here, even if there isn't much of a sense of melody here. I do like the crunchy snare here, although at times it can be a little too much for my liking. The whole thing feels like a gabber track, yet there isn't any distortion on the drums as such. It has some cool square melodies here i must say. Not my favourite from you, but i did have a lot of fun either way. Good job!
jxsl - That is a cool piano tone, it sounds kind of jazzy, and very room oriented. The drums and bass really make this some funky 90's sounding stuff. It has a bit of a Soul II Soul vibe going on, it quite groovy. The mix is a little off for me personally, i find the drums and the bass are way upfront compared to the rest, and despite how good the piano sounds, it sort of feels like a background element when the drums and bass come in. Still though this is a really great idea, with a killer piano backing. Lots of potential here, it was a lot of fun, good job!
A2Z - Pretty cute sounding, really liking that piano and EP combo. It sounds weirdly 80's in a way, even though it's not. The bassline is very tight and deep, and the chords are kind of mellow and cute. It is mostly two chords throughout, but sometimes you don't need to say a lot, and this is the prime example of it. The melody is pretty, and the drum fills are beautiful. I love the 2nd progression, it keeps it to the same cute level, but makes it more adventerous rather than just straight up cute. Yeah i really like this, everything is nicely balanced, the melodies are great, and it was just fun from start to finish, definately voting worthy, awesome work!
Meistr - Ooh this time we have musical collaborators too, not just vocalists. That piano is very much giving Genie in the Bottle vibes, the chord progression is kind of similar. Wasn't expecting Electro Swing, but damn it's quite funky. The way you played the piano line, reminds me of the Ray Charles swing, it compliments the finger snips. I couldn't detect any guitar, until i heard the bass slides and it clicked. The vocalists are great too, really matches the tempo, and goes well in unison. If i were to be a little nitpicky, i think more smoothing in the mix could go a long way, particularly emphasising more of a stronger piano line, and a few more jazz drum parts, as sort of fills, but aside from that, everything else was great! I feel compelled to give you this one, it was quite catchy. Well done!
RukkuVT - Nice breakdown of the stats in the description, it was very helpful. I just love your filtering automation, it really makes it fitting to the atmosphere, compared to having it mostly dry. Nice of you to interpret Super Mario Galaxy, that's always a treat. That snare is awesome, such a tight beat this week, i'm loving it. It is in your face in comparison to the rest though, the processing on the drums is perfect, just maybe mixed a little too loud in comparison to the rest. You know how to make a chord progression, it's great. I know it seems hypocritical for me to say, given that i churn out 6 minuters every week, but i find that you tend to loop mostly 4 bar phrases (Sometimes 2 bars even), and whilst that is lovely, for this length, it tends to get repetitive towards the end. I'm a odd one in that i like my repetition to not be too forced. Like there must be an intent behind this repetiton. In this case, i feel there is looping, but i sense a missed opportunity in the form of a melody, chord or a key change etc. Still though, the vibe is great, and i was chill throughout, so credit where it's due. You make some great bangers, just maybe at around 4:30 and not so much 5:44. A lot of fun either way, so don't be discouraged, good job!
Misael.K - Wow there is a lot of 6 minute entries this week. And there's only 11 entires total lol. I'm loving these pads here, it's very granular sounding, and quite free-flowing, so there isn't a distinctive chord change happening, and it mostly is just drone based ambience. I like this, especially for this theme, which showcases mostly an empty room, and minimalism. This is kind of pretty, especially since were mostly riding on a F Major chord throughout, or at least what sounds like an F Major chord. Loving the background textures, were kind of simulating a glockenspiel in some ways. Kind of bold in some ways to go full on drone based, as it can be very challenging to get the balance of repetition right, and in this case you've nailed it. I love how it slowly and slowly builds, with more and more cool ambient textures getting added throughout. I still hear the intent with the drone, but everything is changing throughout, so i don't feel like were in the same sound throughout. The breakdown in the middle was very suprising, i assumed we would be staying in the same dynamic throughout, but no we go into some very cool c418 styled synths and chords. I could talk some more as i listen, but really it's still awesome anyways. Extremely cool sounding stuff, and very chill, i loved this one a lot, it was awesome. So awesome i ended up placing it on the top spot, it was a wonderful journey. Incredible work!
Snipesy - This is some deep chords, i feel the bass in my soul. The drums are very tight as hell, but i can sense it's quite compressed, like squishy compressed. This is not a bad thing for a genre that needs a fair bit of compression like Dubstep, yet this is closer to 2 step garage. However in spite of the mix, you provide me with some really sick arps, and cool background pads. For mostly 2 chords, it's quite haunting, and in some ways futuristic. I feel we could probably go even further with a melody of some kind, or even a drum switchup, the idea is very much a lovely start. If the compression was lessened a bit, this could actually be pretty awesome, but i still loved it either way, i had a lot of fun with it. Good job!
DDRKirby(ISQ) - Damn this round is quite long, for only 11 entries. I was not expecting quite a few 5-6 minute entries this week. I love that piano, it gives me good vibes, and the delay on it, is very tastefully done. I can sense this is another DDR progressive hood classic lol. Because the intro is very much a slow and gradual build, than a sudden drop kind of thing. I love how the chords swell in as we listen, it's quite the chill progression. Not my favourite DDR progression, but it's very pleasing to the ears. The melody in this is quite cute in a way, even if the genre is not meant for cuteness. The mix is pretty awesome in this though, even when you remove the melody aspect of it, the mix is just so tight and nicely mixed. I don't really have much critique to say about this, i enjoyed it thoroughly throughout. So much so i placed it on the 3rd spot, amazing work!
Arcana - That bassline is quite meancing even if it's done in a mostly techno style. Wasn't expecting that fill, it disoriented me a little, but the drop was satisfying. The autotune in this, is actually my favourite of your autotune, it really fits the vibe so well. Your main vocal is a little pitchy not gonna lie, but it's mostly in this track, you sing exceptionally well normally. The drums are pretty catchy, if a little on the quiet side, but the track itself is so cool, the chords are kind of terminator like, and it goes well with the vocals. If this had a bit more sprucing up, i could totally see this as even being voting worthy, it was a really good idea. Good job!
DJohn - Chill piano, kind of cute and mellow, has almost a children's quality to it, especially with that lush reverb. The guitar and piano combo, just really makes this one hell of a mellow piece. The chords are designed in such a way, it makes me feel like i'm on the springtime grass relaxing. The track itself is a bit on the quiet side, perhaps a lot on the quiet side, however the mix itself is pretty great, the vocal effects are wonderful, and it goes well with the guitar. Honestly the only thing here, is to boost the volume a bit, to make a little more louder, but aside from that, it's pretty wonderful. And absolute delight, so much so i placed it on the 2nd spot, incredible work!
